1. Classification by function
According to functional classification, waterproof fabrics can be divided into two categories: water-repellent and breathable fabrics and waterproof and breathable fabrics. Water droplets will not easily penetrate into the coated fabric surface and form water droplets on the fabric surface. But it is not really waterproof. Water will seep if water droplets stay on the surface of the fabric for a long time. This is a water-repellent and breathable fabric. Due to washing and long-term use, water-repellent and moisture-permeable fabrics will fail. Even super-strong water-repellent and moisture-permeable fabrics are only more durable than ordinary water-repellent and moisture-permeable fabrics.
Waterproof and breathable fabrics generally refer to making a rubber base on the bottom of the fabric. It is divided into two types: coating and lamination. A layer of waterproof material is laminated at the back. The vast majority of waterproof and breathable fabrics use lamination. This is truly waterproof. Under normal circumstances, the surface of waterproof and moisture-permeable fabrics is also made of water-repellent and non-water-repellent. The waterproof and moisture-permeable fabrics made of water-repellent surfaces are better than simple water-repellent and moisture-permeable fabrics or waterproof and moisture-permeable fabrics.
